Gulf Oil Spill Update

Pensacola Beach Gulf Pier Hot Spot for Cobia

More than 20 cobia, a.k.a. ling or lemon fish, were caught off of the Pensacola Beach Gulf Pier in two days. This is the time of year cobia migrate from the Florida Keys to the Mississippi coast to spawn. The cobia caught off of Pensacola shores are currently unaffected by the BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.

Other finny treats recently reeled in by anglers in one day alone include more than 35 king mackerel, 60 pompano, 70 Spanish mackerel and nearly two dozen sheepshead.

Snapper, Cobia, Grouper and More

Captains Jerry and Rusty took a large group on a deep-sea fishing charter on Friday, May 7, including Santa Rosa Island Authority board member Thomas Campanella, and literally caught a boat-load of fish.
