25-foot Whale Shark spotted on Oriskany
A lucky group of divers encountered a whale shark while scuba diving the USS Oriskany aboard the charter boat “H2O Below” over the Memorial Day weekend. “It was a thrilling experience,” said Bryan Clark. “Diving with a whale shark has been on my wish-list since I was a kid.” According to Clark, the 25-foot-long whale shark was both curious and friendly. “She seemed as curious about us as we were about her. She swam in slow circles approaching each diver in turn. She even popped up to visit the snorkelers on the surface. What a graceful and beautiful creature.” In addition, Clark and his buddies saw a manta ray, a green moray eel, arrow crabs and schools of large amberjack and red snapper. They even picked up slipper lobsters for dinner.
